Day 1

Ok, so I am not the typical physique of your average runner. However, I have decided to take on the daunting task of Couch to 5K. If you're not familiar with Couch to 5K, it is a popular exercise routine people seem to enjoy. I am definitely NOT a runner. Today was my first day with this program. I downloaded a podcast to guide me along while at the gym on the treadmill. Imagine, if you will, the fat chick at the gym running in intervals to techno-trance music (or whatever it's called). It didn't totally kick my ass so I guess that's good for day one. Supposedly exercise isn't supposed to kill you each time you go. WHAT A FREAKING CONCEPT!!! I am writing this blog in hopes that I will inspire someone like me to get their ass off the couch and run!  I have a set of challenges set for myself, the first of which start March 12 in the Dash Down Greenville 5K in Dallas. I and a good friend are running this year for the support of another friend who suffered a debilitating CVA (stroke) this past fall. Most of which is my main motivation to keep myself in good physical condition. Not to be a bodybuilder or triathlete or anything of that nature. I watch people everyday where I work in poor health who suffer because they didn't take care of their bodies sooner. I have grown numb to their health problems because it's my job to take care of them not thinking that it would happen to me because they're old. What has gotten to me is the coworkers who are young suffering from debilitating illnesses that I treat in 60-70 year olds everyday. Maybe it's not just the old folks, huh? SO here I go. No crash-dieting, weird cleanses, or even a tapeworm. I am doing this the old-fashioned way. The RIGHT way. Exercise and not eating CRAP!!! God help me!
